Community School 300 is a diverse and collaborative school for students in grades Prekindergarten to grade five. Our school is dedicated to achieving high standards of academic excellence for all students. Community School 300 is one of the few campus style schools located in the Bronx. There are four schools comprising our entire complex: two middle schools, one District 75 Program and Community School 300; the only elementary school. At Community School 300, our philosophy and vision is“Teaming toward Excellence”.
We have collaborations and partnerships the Good Shepard After School Program Inc., The READ Alliance, The Sport and Arts Foundation and Centra / Ruddy Architecture Firm. Through our literacy program (Benchmark Literacy), mathematics (Go Math!), science, social studies and art, our students learn real world applications that will enable them to meet the challenges of our ever-changing world. Our students learn skills that will enable them to think critically and work collaboratively in the classroom. In addition, our students will develop habits-of-the mind that will enable them to excel in reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, art, and science.

Community School 300 is a collaborative learning community of colleagues and pedagogues. Evidence of our collaboration is the sharing of ideas and best practices during common planning time amongst teachers and staff. Data is used to by teachers to align teaching and student achievement in reading, mathematics, social studies and science. Teachers promote critical thinking and the inquiry approach to teaching on a daily basis. There are a variety of assessments used at C.S. 300 to monitor student achievement: Periodic Assessments (literacy & math), F&P Benchmark Assessment System, Go Math Unit Exams, ReadyEGN Unit Exams, Performance Based Assessments in both literacy and math, Benchmark Writing and Math Assessments, as well as, teacher-created exams.

What is distinctive about Community School 300 is the academic features of our school building. Community School 300 is a campus style school located in the Bronx. Four schools share our entire complex: two middle schools, one District 75 Program and Community School 300, an elementary school. The greatest accomplishment of our school is the additions of positive school-wide enrichment programs for students and parents. Also, Community School 300 has transitioned into a nurturing and warm environment for students and staff. There are resources for teachers via professional development literature and the creation of a wikispace web page to share C.S. 300 news and instructional information through technology. Also, there are enrichment clubs and activities for students and parents. We have an after school program for students within our school: the Good Shepard After School Program Incorporated, the SISTAH and Boys to Men Conflict Resolution Programs.
The most significant aid to our school continues to be the retention of experienced and veteran teaching staff as the school transitioned from the former C.S. 234 into our existing C.S. 300. However, the most significant barrier to our school’s continuous improvement is building capacity. Our school continues to house four schools within one building. With increased student enrollment each year and the addition of city shelters within our community, our capacity to accommodate these needs is a challenge.
